Santa is coming……

Wow, I almost forgot that today is St. Nicholas’ Day. I always wanted to tell new stories about myself on Saturdays, but of course I can’t miss a date like today. I’m curious to see if it snows today, maybe I’ll play St. Nicholas then.

Did you know that the tradition of putting boots outside the door comes from an old legend? Saint Nicholas is said to have secretly put golden orbs in the boots of three poor girls. It went like this: in a small town there lived three poor sisters. They had no dowry and therefore could not find a husband (it was probably like that back then). Saint Nicholas heard of their plight and wanted to help them. At night he slipped through the chimney and put three golden orbs in each of their boots. They must have had wide chimneys back then 🙂 In any case, with this gold the sisters were able to buy a good dowry and soon found a loving husband. I must ask Joey if he has any golden balls too…….

But it could also be that the story about the boots comes from here: a poor shoemaker had no boots for his children. One cold winter evening he was sitting sadly at his workplace. Suddenly he heard a knock on the door. It was Santa Claus, who had brought him new, warm boots for his children. The shoemaker was overjoyed and thanked Santa Claus with all his heart.

People and their customs are really strange. For ages they have been cleaning their shoes and boots, leaving them outside the door, and supposedly – what fox is so stupid – the next morning the boot is full of sweets, fruit or presents. Joey certainly doesn’t get any small presents.

I should try to see if I can follow in my dad’s footsteps, as “Wizard Copperfield”. I can definitely make boots disappear. The dirty, smelly things……….

So, my dears, I have to go again. I still have a lot to do. What, I won’t say.

But we’ll see each other again tomorrow 😉
