From January 2026, COPPERFIELD IRT (SE) is looking for a
Wildlife Animal Keeper (f/m)
to strengthen the team for the medical care of wild animals. On 110 hectares of hunting-free forest land in the heart of Sweden (Malung-Sälen, Dalarna County), the team cares for injured or sick animals.
Your tasks:
- Care and support of wild animals (elk calves, red fox, arctic fox, wolf, roe deer, red deer, hare, dog, wolverine)
- Assistance with capturing, transporting, releasing, treating, and, if necessary, euthanizing animals
- Animal activity, habitat enrichment
- Goal-based training to support veterinary treatments
- Expert handling of feed
- Animal care tasks (documentation, feed preparation, medication and instrument preparation, medication administration, bandage changes, disinfection of work equipment, cleaning of accommodations)
- Reporting of abnormalities in the condition or behavior of animals
- minor maintenance work, reporting necessary repairs, especially to the accommodation
What we expect from you:
- Training as a “zoo animal keeper” or “veterinary assistant” is an advantage, but not a requirement.
- You should be able to respond appropriately to unexpected animal care situations.
- Handling larger and/or potentially dangerous animals, especially when under stress, is essential. You must adhere to the general SOP, which we will explain to you separately for each species.
- Willingness to work weekends, possibly at night, and possibly in difficult terrain.
- High sense of responsibility.
- Loyalty and discretion are very important to us.
- A vegan lifestyle is not a requirement, but an advantage.
- We are a small, international team. The working language is English, German, or Hebrew. Swedish is an advantage, but not a requirement, for dealing with or socializing with the local population.
- EU driver’s license class B, class C1 is an advantage.
- EU passport or identity card is required. Registration with the Swedish tax office to obtain a “personnummer” is mandatory after the probationary period at the latest.
- Due to the handling of medications and various tools, a clean Swedish “registerutdrag” or German “Polizeiliches Führungszeugnis” (Police Certificate of Good Conduct) is mandatory.
What you can expect from us:
- Fair, performance-based, and punctual wages
- Flat hierarchies
- Flexible working hours
- Vehicle also available for free private use
- Accommodation in your own small Swedish house on the premises (40 sq m, kitchen, bathroom) upon request. The housing situation in this very rural area is rather poor.
- Your own dogs with a certain level of basic obedience are welcome (we will assist with registration with the Swedish authorities).
- A breathtaking landscape between forests, lakes, and (at some distance) high mountains (ski resorts)
- Wildlife in their natural habitat
- A working environment beyond the veterinary practice or zoological garden
If you are interested, we would appreciate receiving a brief CV outlining your previous experience in animal care/veterinary medicine. We would be delighted if you could explain why you are interested in taking on these challenges. Please send your application as a PDF, ODT, or DOC file exclusively by email to:
